土壌のpHが、カメムシと共生細菌の出会いを左右することを発見しました。 弱酸性の土では共生細菌が活発に動き、カメムシの腸内共生が成立。一方で中性〜アルカリ性では運動性が低下し、共生が阻害されます。「環境が共生を選ぶ」という新しい視点を示した研究です！

Our paper co-authored with Ito and Kikuchi at AIST was published in Microbiome!

We found that soil pH determines whether stinkbugs meet their symbiotic bacteria. In weakly acidic soil, the symbionts move actively and establish symbiosis in the stinkbug gut. In neutral to alkaline soil, on the other hand, their motility drops and symbiosis is blocked. The study offers a new perspective: "the environment chooses the symbiosis"!
